Stress is not a feeling; it is a physiological state. The sympathetic nervous system takes over, the breath shortens, and the body prepares for a threat that, for most of us, never arrives. Yoga works on that state directly. Slow nasal breathing with a longer exhale stimulates the vagus nerve and shifts the body toward the parasympathetic — the "rest and digest" state. This is not mysticism; it is measurable in heart rate variability within a few minutes. A practical starting point: five minutes of Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing) in the morning, ten minutes of gentle asana in the evening, and a two-minute exhale-lengthening practice whenever you notice your shoulders climbing toward your ears. Consistency beats duration every time. Ten minutes a day for a month will do more for your nervous system than a three-hour class once a fortnight.
